Who are we?

For over 10 years cesar has delivered services in the fields of sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation. We are a passionate team who provide scientific research and services to government, industries and private organisations. We are self-proclaimed science geeks who love our work, and we are looking for a new Research Scientist to join the Sustainable Agriculture team.

The role - is this you?

The mission of this role is to join our driven and engaged Sustainable Agriculture team as a Research Scientist, helping to deliver high quality and impactful outcomes to our clients through applied research.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has the ability to undertake independent scientific research – can confidently undertake literature reviews, design experiments, analyse data, structure and process qualitative and quantitative data, and draw insightful conclusions from this data.
  • Is a strong project manager with exceptional organisational skills – with a proven track record of efficiency, meeting deadlines and coordinating several projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates outstanding communication and interpersonal skills – produces clear, concise and articulate reports (written and verbal), and has the ability to liaise directly with clients and project collaborators.
  • Is driven by a passion for agriculture and the environment – has a desire to deliver research outcomes that will benefit Australian producers, support sustainable farming, and protect the environment.
  • Experience in ecological research - previous experience researching invertebrates in agricultural or related systems with some botanical expertise is desirable.
  • A team player – who works effectively in a team environment and is always open to taking on board feedback and ideas as well as providing feedback to others.
  • A can do attitude – demonstrates persistence, tenacity and a willingness to go the distance to get something done (we know research doesn’t always go to plan!).

Are you up for the challenge?

Projects will largely centre on arthropod pests in agroecosystems and will vary depending on contracted projects and the strengths of the person employed in the role.

We expect that our new Research Scientist will achieve the following outcomes in this role:

  • Delivery of laboratory-based research in a timely manner, within budget and with scientific rigour.
  • Delivery of client reports and scientific manuscripts.
  • Fostering highly productive relationships with external stakeholders, including collaborators, industry personnel and clients.
  • Contributing to cesar’s extension and communication initiatives through the delivery of industry presentations and preparation of industry articles.
  • Supporting Leadership in achieving business and divisional goals.

What we can offer?

  • A dynamic and fast-paced working environment, with offices currently in leafy Parkville (on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD).
  • State-of-the-art facilities, with connections to leading researchers from universities, CSIRO and government agencies across Australia.
  • The opportunity to work within a purpose driven business – we are committed to making a positive impact in the world and are always seeking to ensure a positive work culture.
  • Full time employment and flexible working arrangements.
